One Tree Hill From The Sky Tower
One Tree Hill (currently No Tree Hill) from the Sky Tower (the blue cast comes from the glass in the Sky Tower windows). One Tree Hill originally had a Maori Totara tree that was cut down by a settler in 1852. It was replaced with a pair of Radiata pine trees. One was cut down by a Boy Scout in the 1960s, the other was attacked several times by Maori activists who wanted to see a native tree replace it. The pine finally died in 2000 and it has not yet been replaced.
